About WKMS

WINDSOR KNOLLS MIDDLE is proud of earning a 2001-02 National BlueRibbon School award. In rural Ijamsville, Maryland, our school embodies an academically solid environment promoted by a caring community of learners supporting academic and personal growth for all.

It would not be unusual for a visitor to witness students in technology classes developing blueprints through computer-aided software and transforming them into a working mechanism in the machine lab. One might hear harmonic sounds of band and chorus rehearsals, and physical education students honing their skills. Social studies classes re-enact history. Students explore traditional African music, participate in mock Olympics and discuss the merits of a recently read novel in literature circles. They study rock formations, marine organisms and soil erosion in an "outdoor classroom." Math skills are reinforced using computer-generated graphs. Art students practice drawing. Foreign language students converse as they celebrate other cultures.

WKMS has established a high standard for its learning community, reflected in its mission statement: "Learning is a lifelong process. In a safe and nurturing environment, the Windsor Knolls Middle School’s learning community of students, staff and parents provides educational opportunities ranging from basic skills to complex problem solving. We will offer continual challenges that pique the curiosity and interest of all learners and allow them to expand their intellectual potential. The students' personal and academic growth will reflect high standards set by the community. We will foster an atmosphere of respect that values inpiduality and persity. As we achieve these goals, we will be recognized as a harmonious community of learners who take pride in ourselves, one another and our school."
